APPROXIMATE VALUES [सन्निकट मान] - 01

1. Question: 18.95 ´ 12.01÷?  = 38     [Ans. (a) 6]
(a)  6      (b)  2         (c)  3            (d)  4                 (e)  7

2. Question: 9876 ÷ 24.96 + 215.005 –?  = 309.99   [Ans. (c) 300]
(a) 395       (b) 295      (c) 300        (d) 315     (e) 310

Solution:

Detailed Explanation: In the chapter “APPROXIMATE VALUES”, we find the values approximately; not exactly. How far and at what extent approximation is to be done, it depends upon the options given.

We can do approximation up to 10% of the difference between the two closest options
If options are 500, 200, 700, 400 and 800; then the closed options are 400 and 500. The difference between them is 100 and 10% of 100 is 10; so we can deviate by10.   In the approximation of 10%, there will never be error. But, as we do approximation more than 10%, the chances of error will gradually increase, and finally it will be wrong.

Approximation also includes simplification. Simplifying without tricky approach, “APPROXIMATION” has no meaning.

But here, approximation is quite obvious.

1. Question: 18.95 ´ 12.01÷ ?  = 38

In this question, 18.95 can be taken as 19; 12.01 can be taken as 12 and easily by solved.
? = (19 ´ 12) ÷ 38 = 6 Ans.
Here, 38 can be cancelled by 19 by 2 and 12 can be cancelled by 2 by 6. So, 6 is the answer.

2. Question: 9876 ÷ 24.96 + 215.005 –?  = 309.99

In this question, 9876 should be taken as 9875; 24.96 should be taken as 25; 215.005 should be taken as 215; and 309.99 should be taken as 310.

9875 should be divided by 25 by tricky approach.

9876 ÷ 24.96 = 9875 ÷ 25 = (10000 – 125) ÷ 25 = 400 – 5 = 395

Then, the question becomes 395 + 215 –? = 310

? = 300 Ans.
