started a business with Rs. 4500. B
joins the business with A after 4 months and C after 8 months. If the profits
are distributed after one year in the ratio of 9 : 6 : 4; then find the capital
[Ans. Rs 6000]
Detailed explanation: “Profits are
always distributed in the ratio of the capitals, other conditions are the same”
– This is the base line of the chapter “PARTNERSHIP.” If the timing are not the
same, the profits are distributed in the ratio of the products of corresponding
“capital” and “timing”.
Given that A has started a business with Rs. 4500
and remained at the end of the business, that is, for 12 months. B joins the business with A after 4 months,
so he remained in the business for last 8 months. Also C joins after 8 months,
so he remained for last 4 months.
Ratio of timings of A, B and C
= 12 : 8 : 4 = 3 : 2 : 1
Ratio of profits of A, B and C
= 9 : 6 : 4
Ratio of capitals of A, B and
C = (9/3) : (6/2) : (4/1) = 3 : 3 : 4
(A’s
capital) 3 ≡ Rs 4500
(C’s
capital) 4 ≡ ? = Rs 6000 Ans.
