SBI PO – 2015 – 13 [Data Interpretation]


1. What are the average marks obtained by all students together in Hindi? (Rounded off two digits after decimal).
(i) 42.83            (ii) 44.62          (iii) 41.54         (iv) 43.28        (v) None of these


Detailed Explanation: Let the average marks be 85.

              84       -1
              86      +1
              88      +3
              90      +5
              86     +1
              80      -5

                     = +4

So, deviations of the marks from are respectively -1, +1, +3, +5, +1 and -5. Sum of all these deviations is +4, that should be distributed among the six scores, it becomes 2/3 = 0.67. So, the average percentage is 85.67% of 50,
Which is equivalent to 50% of 85.67 = half of 85.67= 42.83 Ans.

2. What are the total marks obtained by Tanya in all the subjects together?
(i) 418               (ii) 412             (iii) 408            (iv) 402           (v) None of these

Solution: (ii) Total marks obtained by Tanya = 60% of 150 + 84% of 100 + 80% of 50 + 65% of 150 + 50% of 125 + 76% of 50 = 90 + 84 + 40 + 97.5 + 62.5 + 38 = 412 Ans.

3. If to pass in the exam, the minimum marks required in math are 95 and in Social Studies are 85, how many students will pass?
(i) One               (ii) Three         (iii) Two           (iv) Four          (v) None of these

Solution: 95 in mathematics is 63.33% and 85 in Social Studies is 68%. Only Ravi and Kirti get the minimum qualifying marks in these subjects. So, (iii) two is the answer.

4. What is Riya’s overall percentage of marks in all subjects together?
(i) 75.6              (ii) 68.3            (iii) 72.8           (iv) 71.2           (v) None of these

Solution: Total marks obtained by Riya = 80% of 150 + 53% of 100 + 86% of 50 + 60% of 150 + 80% of 125 + 78% of 50 = 120 + 53 + 43 + 90 + 100 + 39 = 445, where as the total marks is 625, which is 71.2%. So, (iv) 71.2 is the Answer.

5. Which student has scored the highest marks in all subjects together?
(i) Prasad          (ii) Riya           (iii) Ravi           (iv) Amit          (v) None of these


Solution: By visual inspection, we can easily find that Ravi, Kirti and Prasad are in the race of getting the maximum marks. But here, very close fight and after visual calculation, Kirti is just ahead of Ravi and Prasad. So, Kirti, that is, (v) None of these; is the answer.
