SBI PO – 2015 - 01

Question: Parameshwaran invested an amount of Rs. 12000 at the simple interest rate of 10% per annum and another amount at the simple interest rate of 20% per annum. The total interest earned at the end of one year on the total amount invested became 14% per annum, find the total amount invested.                                   
(a) Rs. 20000    (b) Rs. 22000    (c) Rs. 25000     (d) Rs. 24000        (e) none of these  

Detailed Explanation: Parameshwaran invested Rs 12000 at the simple interest rate of 10% pa another amount at the simple interest rate of 20% pa. The mean rate is given as 14% pa.
The ratio of their investment, by the method of Alligation is, (20 – 14) : (14 - 10)
That is, 6 : 4 means, 3 : 2
   
Investment at the rate of 10% is 3 ≡ Rs 12000

Investment at the rate of 20% is 5 ≡ ? that is, Rs 20000 Ans.
